Q & A

Q: What is the process for sending cams in for repair?
A:

  • Step 1: Download and print Cam Repair Form.
  • Step 2: Email info@metoliusclimbing.com for an RA#. Detailed instructions for sending your cams in are on the Cam repair form. Please let us know if you have any questions.
  • Step 3: Ship your cams and completed cam repair form to:

Q: How long do cam repairs take?
A: Usually about two weeks from the time the cams are received at Metolius Climbing. This can vary of course but we do our best to get your cams back to you as soon as possible.

Q: Is there an age limit to cams that can be repaired?
A: No, there is no life span on metals. We can bring first-generation cams back to life.

Q: How do I know if my cam is beyond repair?
A: There are instances where cams cannot be repaired. If a body cable is severely damaged or cam stop is sheared off, it may be best to retire. If you are unsure, a good place to start, is by sending clear and detailed photos to info@metoliusclimbing.com where we can advise if it’s worth sending in for repair.

Q: What happens to my cams if they are unrepairable?
A: If for any reason your cams cannot be repaired, we will notify you.

Q: Does Metolius offer pro deals or discounts on cam repairs?
A: We do not. However, if you shop around, you will find our prices are exceptionably reasonable.

Q: What is included with the repair service?
A: We give your cams the royal treatment! For the resling service all cams are put into a commercial ball bearing burnisher. Like a washing machine filled with steel ball bearings. This will thoroughly clean and polish the cams, especially the inaccessible areas. Next the cams are inspected, lubed, and balanced. We make sure your cams are functioning smoothly and properly. Then we will put a brand-new sling with a date, so you know when the cams were repaired. Voila!
If a rewire is in order, cams will get the same treatment as the resling service with the addition of new trigger cables.

Q: How do I maintain my cams after they have been repaired?
A: We have an informative video on how to keep your cams in tip top form on our YouTube page. Check out the How to Guides in the Extras tab.

Q: Does Metolius offer an international cam repair service?
A: Our cam repair service is only available in the US and Canada.
